Partner of the ATHOR network, Imerys Refractory Minerals underlines its concern about the future of the refractory industry. Indeed, we measure the importance of cross-disciplinary approaches which will dramatically increase the transfer of scientific knowledge to our refractory-consuming industries in Europe ensuring progress on social, environmental and economic aspects.
ATHOR stands for advanced thermo mechanical multiscale modeling of refractory linings. This innovative, collaborative and interdisciplinary project is dedicated to train Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) in multi engineering fields for a better understanding of thermo mechanical behavior of refractory linings used in iron and steelmaking. The main objective is to develop high-end engineering technologies in material engineering and numerical simulations thanks to an intensive cooperation between academia, raw materials suppliers, refractory producers and end-users.
A 4 year European Training Network program will start in October 2017 as a Marie-Sklodowska-Curie action and will allow 15 committed and highly motivated Early Stage Researchers to craft the future of ceramic materials for high temperature applications.
With 14 international partners, including 8 industrial companies (Altéo Alumina, Imerys Refractory Minerals, Magnesita Refractories, Pyrotek Scandinavia AB, RHI AG, Saint-Gobain, Tata Steel, FIRE) and 6 universities, these young researchers will have the opportunity to collaborate with experts in various research groups and may take advantage of the most sophisticated numerical tools to model, design and predict the life of refractory lining configurations in critical operation conditions.
Trained in scientific, technical and soft skills, the 15 ESRs selected in the program will be the next generation of highly employable scientists and engineers in the refractory industry and related areas. These future PhD will bring the necessary answers to the primary challenges for both the European Steel and Refractory manufacturers linked to cost and availability of raw materials and energy, as well as to environmental and climate change regulation.
Deadline for application on ESR positions is July 23rd! Click on the following link to find out more about the ATHOR Programm : ATHOR PhD Recruitment
