Imerys Refractory Minerals is the world’s leading producer of calcined products for the refractory industry.
Our Mulcoa® range of materials is recognized as the global benchmark. Clays are mined from the South Georgia kaolin belt in the US, and blended to obtain chemistries between 45 and 70% alumina.
The transformation of clay into mullite generates a structure that gives the product the required characteristics for refractory applications:
Good creep resistance
Low thermal conductivity
Excellent thermal stability
Good thermal shock resistance
Resistance to most chemical attacks
Mulcoa® is a mainstay of refractory production, wherever volume stability, resistance to carbon monoxide attack and all-around performance are required.
Alumino-silicate is particularly used for moulds requiring high refractoriness and creep resistance, as in casting of large steel or titanium alloys.
Mulgrain® grains and flours are superior ceramic refractory mould media. These grains are precisely sized through a series of screens, and custom blended to obtain a series of coarse to fine sizes. During screening the grains are de-dusted to ensure a virtually dust free stucco.
