Fused Silica
Fused silica is high purity quartz sand that has been melted to form glass.
High volume stability, low volumetric expansion and high purity make fused silica a very useful and versatile material for refractory applications, whether in aluminum launders or other highly cyclical applications.
Our fused silica, Teco-Sil® has an extremely low thermal expansion coefficient, consistent chemistry and carefully controlled particle size distribution. Teco-Sil products are specially engineered grains and powders designed for use in foundry, refractory, investment casting and other special applications.
Teco-Sil is produced at Imerys Greeneville fusion plant in Tennessee, USA.
Teco-Sil is an extremely insulative material with very low thermal conductivity and with its good thermal shock resistance it is often used in flow control/continuous casting applications (for steel making) and glass rolls.

Electronics
Teco-Sil EMC has very high electrical resistivity and low thermal conductivity, so is used as filler in epoxy molding compounds for semi-conductors.
We also produce a spherical fused silica Teco-Sphere®. This is a specially engineered powder for use in encapsulating resins.

Teco-Sil EMC and Teco-Sphere individual datasheets are available upon request.
Foundry
In investment casting, Teco-Sil is used for its volume stability. Indeed fused silica has an extremely low thermal expansion coefficient and so very tight tolerance castings can be produced with easy shell removal.
