High-purity kaolin materials are fired under controlled methods to make our metakaolins. These functional fillers are used in building and refractory applications for their pozzolanic behavior and fine particle size.
Metakaolin’s pozzolanic reactivity means it can react with calcium hydroxide in cement-based products. It is a dehydroxylated aluminum silicate. Its general formula is Al2O3.2SiO2. It is an amorphous non-crystallized material made up of lamellar particles.
Imerys Refractory Minerals proposes 3 types of metakaolin:
Argical™ M1200S, powder calcination in a flash calciner to obtain a hyper-reactive product with high specific surface.
MK-40, a metakaolin produced in Ukraine.
Metakaolin is used as an additive to hydraulic binding agents (concretes, mortars and coatings) made from Portland cement or lime.
Argical™ M1000 can be used as a substitute for cement (up to 15%) under French sttandard NF 18-513.
The high reactivity of Argical™ M1200S makes it effectif for repairing mortar since it brings fast reaction.

In foundry, metakaolin is used as an additive in the moulding process as well as components in the new generation of inorganic binders based on geopolymers.
